Subject: Possible Spoiler: Jewish View of Afterlife? IP: Logged
Message: Because I am not Jewish, I was wondering if the the Jewish view of the afterlife relates to the end of the movie?

Message: An inevitable question. There is no normative Jewish view of the afterlife, even in Orthodox Judaism; Judaism is not a dogmatic religion. Individual beliefs run the gamut. (OK, achim, you're all free to chime in and disagree with me) The final scene of The Believer was Leora Barish's idea (Henry Bean's wife). I don't think it represents any particular religious vision. Again (see my comments in the prior string) it's an artistic device. I do think the reference to Jacob's ladder is inescapable.

Message: Not only this
Danny keeps talking about pulling life to arrive at "Nothing"
teacher said it:
"danny there is nothing up there"
anyway danny-child looks as a genius to me
when he told "these are the only two things jews can do: feeling fear and being sacrificated"
I also think that a gentle couldn't never understand this moovie as deeply as a jew could.
