This site says that Ryan Gosling wouldn't be eligible for an Oscar cuz the film went to TV first. Is that true? If so, what a rip off!

I totally agree with you. I am an avid movie fan, and I like all types of movies, and even though I have only read the screenplay, if Ryan Gosling was able to portray the character of Danny Balint even half as good on screen as he was portrayed in the screenplay, he was very deserving of an oscar. In fact the only chance I have had to witness his acting skills is in Murder By Numbers, and he was fantastic, the movie itself was just okay, but his performance without a doubt stole the show. So I personally think that even though he was robbed of an oscar for The Believer, that it won't be long before we see him up there making a speech of his own while receiving that prestigious award.

I totally agree, Murder by Numbers was so-so at best, but Gosling's performance was outstanding. I was lucky enough to catch the final airing of The Believer on Showtime the day after seeing Murder by Numbers and was even more impressed by his performance.
For one thing, it took me a long time to be convinced it was the same person (even though I knew it was). He wasn't "Ryan Gosling" at all. It seemed as though he really let himself become Danny and feel Danny's torture.
Some of the scenes in the movie had to require a great deal of courage on his part to pull off so well. I think if those scenes hadn't been acted so convincingly, the movie would have suffered tremendously. A weak performance by the lead could have given the appearance that the filmmakers didn't really have the guts to tell the story. But with Gosling's uninhibited performance, the scenes may be hard to watch, but they seem truthful.

Guess I'm gonna have to check out MBN now. I would never have paid money to see such trash, but after seeing Gosling in TB, I'll have to check out all his ohter work!

Gosling's performance in The Believer was mindblowing. It made the movie.
He was the best thing about Murder By Numbers as well.
What an actor.
