Susan
Hoffman began her career in the music industry working for legendary
manager Albert Grossman and managing Todd Rundgren. She then became
general manager of Grossmans record company, Bearsville Records.
A graduate of UCLA with a B.A. in psychology, Hoffman entered the
film industry in the story department of Cannon Films. During
her career at Cannon, Hoffman was involved in the production of
more than twenty motion pictures including such films as RUNAWAY
TRAIN, TOUGH GUYS DONT DANCE AND 52 PICK-UP. She first met
Barbet Schroeder while supervising his film BARFLY. This was the
beginning of a fruitful creative collaboration.
Hoffman
left Cannon to become a development executive at Carolco Pictures,
where she worked with many well-known writers, directors and stars.
In 1991, Ms. Hoffman became the producing partner of Barbet Schroeder
in connection with the film SINGLE WHITE FEMALE. Subsequently they
have produced (with Mr. Schroeder directing) KISS OF DEATH, BEFORE
AND AFTER and DESPERATE MEASURES. The pair also produced SHATTERED
IMAGE, a film directed by Raul Ruiz. They are currently in post-production
on MURDER BY NUMBERS which stars Sandra Bullock and Ryan Gosling.
In
1999, while Schroeder was in Colombia filming his Spanish language
film, OUR LADY OF THE ASSASSINS, Ms. Hoffman joined forces with
screenwriter Henry Bean as producer of THE BELIEVER.
